Overview

A fan on its own is only the air mover. The guard decides whether fingers and tools can reach the blades, the filter decides what gets into the enclosure and how much airflow survives, and the controller decides whether the fan runs flat out at 2 a.m.

Accessories are also where most installation mistakes happen. A guard with the wrong fixing centres, a filter class denser than the fan can pull through, a speed controller rated below the fan current — each turns a working fan into a complaint.

WILMALL supplies guards, filter guards, dust shutters, thermostats, heaters and speed controllers matched to the same frame sizes as the fans. When you order a fan, tell us the opening and the control requirement, and the accessories are confirmed together so the fixing pattern, the airflow and the electrical rating line up.

Why Buy From WILMALL

Matched to the fan, not to a size class

Fixing centres differ between frames that share a nominal size. We match the guard to the fan you ordered rather than to the nearest catalogue page.

Filter derating stated with the fan

We tell you what the fan delivers through the filter you chose, so the enclosure still meets its temperature target after the opening is covered.

Electrical ratings checked together

Controller current rating, thermostat contact type and fan motor type are confirmed as one set. A controller rated too low is a failure that shows up months later.

Where It Fits

Cabinet intake filtration

Filter guards on the intake and a louvre or filter on the exhaust keep dust out while holding the airflow target.

Public and accessible equipment

Finger guards where people can reach a running fan — machine panels, retail equipment, outdoor units.

Temperature-based switching

Thermostats that start the fan only when the cabinet warms, reducing dust intake and noise.

Anti-condensation heating

Heaters and changeover controls for cabinets that sit cold or outdoors.

How to Specify

Measure the fixing centres, not the nominal size

Two fans sold as the same nominal size can have different hole spacing and outside dimensions. Measure centre to centre and the outside edge, or send the fan label. Guards that do not line up are the most common return.

Filter class is a trade-off with airflow

A denser filter keeps more dust and costs more pressure. Match the class to the environment — general plant dust, fibrous dust, oil mist — and account for the airflow loss before choosing the fan. In heavy contamination, filtered cooling may be the wrong approach altogether.

Match the controller to the motor

AC motors often accept voltage control, but not all do so gracefully: some buzz or overheat at low settings. EC fans need a 0–10 V or PWM signal, not a triac dimmer. Check the controller's current rating against the fan's running current, with margin.

Thermostats: contact type and rating

NO or NC decides whether the fan starts on rising or falling temperature. Check the switching current against the fan, and whether the sensor suits the mounting position — capillary or remote sensor for a cabinet, electronic for a room.

Order spares with the first batch

Filter media, guards and mounting screws are cheap to add to the first order and slow to source later. If the panel is built in batches, keep one spare set per batch on the shelf.

Questions

How do I know which guard fits my fan?

Measure the fixing-hole centres and the outside dimensions, or send the fan label or a photo with a ruler. Nominal size alone is not enough — frames of the same size differ.

Does a filter guard reduce airflow?

Yes. The denser the media, the more resistance, and the delivered airflow drops. We size on the filtered figure so the enclosure still meets its temperature target.

Can I use a lamp dimmer to control the fan?

No. A lamp dimmer is not rated for an inductive motor load and can overheat or damage the fan. Use a controller rated for the motor current and type.

How do I wire a thermostat to a fan?

The thermostat switches the supply to the fan, with the contact type chosen for the logic you need. Confirm the voltage and current rating, and follow the wiring diagram supplied with the part.

How do I control an EC fan?

With a 0–10 V or PWM signal, depending on the model. A voltage controller designed for AC fans will not work. Tell us the control signal available and we will match the fan and the controller.

Do you supply replacement filter media?

Yes, matched to the guard you ordered. Keep the part number; media from another frame usually does not seal properly.

Send the fan label and we will match the parts.

A photo of the fan nameplate or the fixing centres is enough. We will confirm the guard, the filter class and the controller rating as one set.
